Çan-2 Local Coal Fired Thermal Power Plant

ELECTRICITY GENERATION

In September 2013, ODAŞ Group acquired 92% shares of Çan Kömür ve İnşaat AŞ, which operates in mining and holds prepaid royalty rights in  Çan District, Çanakale.

After the studies carried out by Fichtner GmbH, an independent German mining feasibility company, coal deposits with an average calorific value of 3.481 kcal/kg were detected on the site in accordance with the Joint Ore Reserves Committee’s (JORC) standards.

This is the highest calorific value of all  power plants using local coal in Turkey. Such high calorific value not only reduces investment costs per MWh, but also gives the power plant a great advantage over its competitors.

Hence, an investment decision for the local coal-fired power plant with an installed capacity of 340 MWm/330 MWe has been made in addition to selling high calorific coals on the market.

The commercial operation of Çan-2 Thermal Power Plant (340 MWm/330 Mwe) has been commenced as of 01.08.2018 upon the Ministry Approval.
